Workshop On Carnot Batteries

During the last International Workshop On Carnot Batteries (Stuttgart 9-10 October 2018), Xabier PeƱa (Tecnalia) held a presentation titled “Compressed Heat Energy Storage for Energy from Renewable sources”.

Carnot Batteries are an emerging technology for the inexpensive and site-independent storage of electric energy at the gigawatt-hour scale. Also referred to as ā€œPumped Thermal Electricity Storageā€ (PTES) or ā€œPumped Heat Electricity Storageā€ (PHES), a Carnot Battery transforms electricity into heat, stores the heat in inexpensive storage media like water or molten salt and transforms the heat back to electricity when required.
